COVID-19 mRNA vaccination mechanism. The mRNA vaccine is injected by intramuscular route, typically into the deltoid muscle. The lipid coat vehicle around the mRNA allows for the vaccine to enter the cytosol of the cell. The ribosomes translate the mRNA into spike proteins. The injected mRNA subsequently degrades. The spike proteins are released from the cell and initiate an adaptive immune response.
